The Earth begins with the marks made by nature: ash grain like weathered land, Zebrano lines like bark, and a teal river running along the neck. In this B-stock chapter the top can be quieter than the example photographs, but the design beneath it remains carefully mapped.
At 80 mm deep, the full-size body sits closer to the player. Earth and Moon soundholes open the top, while the BS3M system waits quietly for the moment the acoustic voice needs a wider room.
The landscape at first glance
Wood grain becomes the opening line.
The top is Tamo, or Japanese ash, chosen for the natural movement of its grain. On these B-stock examples that figuring may be less pronounced than it appears in the stock photographs. That difference is part of the condition statement, not something hidden beneath the story.
Flatsawn Zebrano forms the back and sides, bringing its own long, bark-like lines. The result is a natural contrast: a lighter face, a striped body and a shape kept deliberately slim.
A river through the details
Teal moves from neck to bridge.
A teal “river” stripe runs through the composite neck, then reappears across the soaked-through maple fretboard and bridge. The colour is not an isolated accent; it is the line that joins the Earth story from one end of the instrument to the other.
The work beneath the surface
The unseen structure has its own chapter.
The soundboard is supported by hollow bracing designed to let the acoustic body do its work. A 43 mm bone nut and compensated bone saddle mark the two ends of the speaking string length, while baked maple binding traces the body, fretboard and headstock.
These are not decorative afterthoughts. Together they form the quiet framework that sits behind the grain, the colour and the two planetary soundholes.
When the room grows larger
Blend the string with the air around it.
The BS3M preamp combines an under-saddle piezo pickup with a soundhole microphone. Its blend control lets the player move between the direct response of the piezo and the air captured inside the body, while the three-band EQ, phase control and notch filter provide practical adjustment on the instrument itself.
Earth and Moon
Two openings turn the top into a map.
The larger Earth soundhole and smaller Moon soundhole move away from the usual central circle. Abalone rosettes frame both openings, while the interior Earth label draws on the alchemical symbol for the element.
At the other end, the Tamo ash headstock veneer continues the top’s material story. Chrome-alloy machine heads use a 19:1 ratio, giving small tuning movements room to settle.
Before it leaves Bristol
B-stock still receives the full final check.
Each instrument is inspected and set up before dispatch. The process covers its cosmetic condition, electronics, neck relief, nut height, action, frets, fretboard treatment, tuning and final playability.
The grain and minor finish marks may vary from guitar to guitar. The preparation does not: the Earth is checked as an instrument before it begins the next part of its story.
